Tequila is a spirit distilled from the fermented juices obtained from the heart of the Blue Weber Agave. It is made primarily in the area surrounding Tequila, a town 65 kilometers northwest of Guadalajara in the highlands of the western Mexican state of Jalisco.
There are two basic categories of tequila: Mixtos and 100% Agave. Mixtos only use 51% agave sugars, the remainder is usually grain alcohol. These tequilas are low quality and are usually sold in bulk to be bottled in other countries. 100% Agave must be made with 100% blue agave juices and must be bottled in Mexico. These tequilas are more complex and are rightly regarded as the best. All of our offerings are 100% Agave.
Tequila is bottled in one of four categories:
Blanco (white) or Plata (silver) –This Tequila is the pure distilate straight from the still, diluted to sale proof and is usually bottled un-aged immediately after distillation to preserve the pure aromatics of the Agave. It may be aged for up to 60 days in oak barrels for a slight "polishing".
Reposado (rested) – Aged a minimum of two months, but less than a year in oak barrels. This gives a richer texture but still allows the Agave flavor to shine through
Añejo (aged) – Aged a minimum of one year, but less than 3 years in oak barrels. Here we are starting to get a much richer texture and some "aged spirit" flavors that lean into the Rum or even Bourbon zone.
Extra Añejo (extra aged) – Aged a minimum of three years in oak barrels. As dark and rich as old rum, smooth as silk, very limited production. This category was established in March 2006. Our Tequila Offerings: 1921 Blanco 750ml./$49.99 Tequila Cream Liqueur 750ml./$25.99

Joya Mezcals Five generaciones of la Familia León have worked to perfect one of the best Mezcals we have ever tasted, from the founding of this house in 1910 by Fortino to his great great grandson Jaret who strives to protect the name and honor of both the family and their zona in Oaxaca. We have made a direct connection to them (cutting out the usual two or three hands in your pocket as the product is exported, imported and distributed) so we can make you a great offer of their bottlings: Joya Azul Gran Reserva Joven (con gusano!) $37.99 This is straight out of the still so it has the most aromas and spices of the agave hearts (and the mesquite used to cook them) but, due to the deft hand and eye of the master distillers at work here, it is still smooth and clean on the palate. Joya Azul Gran Reserva Reposado $39.99 The Reposado is aged for a few months in French oak barrels, mellowing it further and adding a hint of color and depth. Joya Azul Gran Reserva Añejo aged SEVEN years $59.99 This fabulous elixir rests for seven full years in barriques and emerges as rich and nuanced as fine Cognac or a smoky Islay Malt. GORGEOUS gold leaf on cobalt blue glass packaging as well.
Metl 2012 Reserva Especial Mezcals These are the result of a typical Hollywood story: handsome blonde surfer dude goes to Mexico in search of the perfect wave, finds the perfect girl instead and settles down (we see Brendan Fraser and Natalia la Fourcade starring in this movie, but knowing how these things work, you just know it will end up being Sanjaya and Jay-Lo). Soon he is enchanted by the exotic history, taste and effect of artisanal Mezcal and decides to bring some of the very best to the US and see if he can fight with the big boys in the market. We think he has a chance: Metl 2012 Silver Reserva Especial $42.99 Sourced from Agave grown high in the mountains and made with pure stream water, this has gorgeous perfumes of flowers and spices and, while it will make a dandy ingredient in cocktails, you really should try some neat. Metl 2012 Reposado Reserva Especial $44.99 This is aged for six months in new American oak to mellow it but still retains a nice spicy Agave zest. Metl 2012 Añejo Reserva Especial $47.99 Aged 13 months in new American oak, this is rich, deep and smoky. Savor it in a snifter.

Del Maquey Single Village Mezcals Most Americans have never had a chance to taste any quality Mescal (Tequila’s exotic cousin, made from mesquite smoked Agave in Oaxaca) and think every bottle should have a worm or two inside. In fact, some of the most sophisticated distillates we offer are the Del Maguey Single Village Mezcals: Santo domingo Albarradas, San Luis del Rio and Chichicapa (made from Agave Espadin) and Minero (made from Tobala, free range wild Maguey). Scorpion Mezcal Añejo Five Years $194.00 If you love smoky Islay malts like Lagavulan or Laphroaig, this is for you! Wild agave smoked over mesquite fires, carefully distilled in small batch alembics and aged for five years in Bourbon casks. One devotee calls it Psychotropically Excellent! Deep, rich and smooth plus each bottle "contains one whole Scorpion Exo-Shell, no nutritional value".
